New Delhi, January 31, 2025 – The Budget Session of Parliament began today as President Droupadi Murmu addressed a joint sitting of both Houses. In this customary tradition, the president outlines the vision, policies, and legislative priorities of the government for the upcoming year.
In her address, President Murmu focused on the major initiatives of the government, economic growth, and legislative proposals to be introduced in the future. She stressed the need for sustained economic reforms, infrastructure development, and social welfare schemes.
After the President’s speech, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey, which is a comprehensive review of the country’s financial performance over the past year and serves as a precursor to the presentation of the Union Budget.
Budget Session: The Budget Session has been planned to be held in two phases. The first phase shall end on February 13 after recess, and then the second phase will commence from March 10 and continue until April 4. In this session, the government is going to introduce 16 new bills, the primary among them being the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and the Immigration and Foreigners Bill.
