Delhi CM Atishi Booked for MCC Violation Amid Election Tensions

Delhi Police have filed an FIR against Chief Minister Atishi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Kalkaji, for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and obstructing public servants on duty. The case has sparked fresh political tensions ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

Allegations Against Atishi

The FIR states that Atishi was present at Fateh Singh Marg with 50-70 supporters and around 10 vehicles, allegedly causing a public disturbance. According to police reports, officers asked the gathering to disperse as per MCC guidelines, but Atishi and her supporters reportedly obstructed an officer from carrying out his duties.

Atishi’s Response and Political Controversy

Reacting to the charges, Atishi accused the Election Commission of bias, saying that BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri’s family members were openly violating the MCC without facing any action. She took to social media to express her frustration and called for a fair implementation of election laws.

FIR Against BJP Candidate’s Family Member

In a parallel development, Delhi Police have also filed a case against Manish Bidhuri, son of BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri, for similar MCC violations. It is a reflection of the rising friction between political parties as the election date approaches.

Election Commission Yet to Respond

The Election Commission is yet to issue an official statement on these allegations. As accusations from both political camps, the incidents go on to hammer in the fact that there remains much to be achieved in terms of ensuring fair and transparent elections.
