Dozen Killed in Suicide Bombing Raids on Northwestern Pakistan Cantonment

A series of suicide bombing raids hit a military cantonment in northwestern Pakistan, killing at least 12 and injuring several others. Security forces acted quickly, killing six terrorists during the operation.

Coordinated Attack on Military Base

The attack occurred in a high-security area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, said security officials. Several suicide bombers tried to storm the cantonment’s perimeter, resulting in an intense exchange of gunfire between militants and security forces.

Loud explosions and heavy firing were heard by eyewitnesses. “The terrorists detonated explosive devices close to the gate before opening fire on security personnel,” an official reported.

Security Forces Neutralize Terrorists

Authorities confirmed that all six attackers were killed before they could continue the carnage. The rapid response by the military helped prevent the attackers from gaining further entry into the base. Regardless of their attempts, the attack saw at least 12 dead, including military and civilians.

No Immediate Claim of Responsibility

Although no group has publicly claimed responsibility for the attack, security experts suspect militant groups that are active in the area. Pakistani authorities have been on alert since there has been an increase in terrorist activities over the past few months.

Government’s Response and Investigation

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif denounced the attack, promising a strong response to terrorism. “We will never let these acts of cowardice destabilize our country,” he said. A high-level investigation has been initiated to look into the attack and determine whether there were any security shortcomings.

With increased security measures in place, authorities are on guard against additional threats in the area as counterterrorism operations persist.
