Fire Breaks Out At Girls’ Hostel In Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park

A huge fire consumed Annapurna Girls’ Hostel in Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park J Block on March 27, 2025, in the evening, sending students into a panic situation and serious queries regarding hostel safety protocols. The likely reason for the fire is an explosion of an air conditioner compressor, which in a matter of seconds had engulfed the hostel, encasing dozens of students inside.

Two of the girls were left stranded on a balcony while attempting to escape the fire, and witnesses captured dramatic video of the drama. One of the girls crashed and fell off within the hostel compound in a cliff-hanger, but the second descended safely in one piece through a ladder manned by pedestrians. The two girls survived during the miracle because they sustained major injury.

When the building was engulfed in thick smoke, the emergency teams and fire department promptly responded and evacuated the students within time. The authorities made it clear that all the residents were evacuated safely with no casualties.

Students in Shock, Authorities Investigate

The experience traumatized other students. Hostel residents described how they had a gruesome encounter, going on to add that they were forced to mount a hasty evacuation down smoke-filled corridors as their wing of the building burned. Faulty fire alarms were responsible and this caused an extremely slow response.

The authorities ordered a probe into the cause of the fire, initial reports indicating an electric short circuit in an AC compressor. The Greater Noida Fire Department also ordered an investigation into the fire safety provisions at the hostels in the area so that this type of accident never occurs again in the future.

Safety Issues in the Hostel

This blaze has kindled even a wider row over the security of student hostels. The majority of the hostels in Knowledge Park accommodate thousands of students but don’t have any fire safety provisions, including fire extinguishers, emergency exit doors, and fire safety inspections.

Since the accident, safety measures have been instituted by hostel management and operate thereafter to enforce fire preparedness into action. The students have been relocated temporarily and counseling services provided to the victims of trauma that were caused in terms of the accident having occurred.

Final Thoughts

Annapurna Girls’ Hostel fire is a wake-up call for the authorities to enforce safety norms strictly in student hostels. With increasing numbers of Greater Noida hostels springing up, there should be proper fire safety precautions in place to prevent another tragedy.
