Gujarat Rape-Murder Case: Serial Killer Returns to Crime Scene for Necrophilia

A shocking case has come out from Gujarat, where a 19-year-old college student was raped and murdered near Udvada railway station in Valsad district. The accused, who is said to be a serial killer, shockingly returned to the crime scene hours later to commit necrophilia.
The attack took place on November 14 after the girl had attended her tuition class and was walking home. She claims the suspect smothered her so that she wouldn’t scream, dragged her to a nearby orchard and committed the crime. Subsequently, he returned to the scene but ran off when he saw people turning up. He left all his valuables behind.

Investigation Breakthrough

The deserted luggage was an important clue for the investigating officers who were able to track the accused from the CCTV cameras of the railway stations. A staff member at Lajpore Central Jail, Surat recognized him as a repeat offender. The accused confessed to killing four more people on trains in different cities, Mangalore, Howrah and Secunderabad.
This defendant is a notorious criminal who was in prison before. Not only is this case a shocker to the community but it has also brought into focus how weak monitoring mechanisms have left offenders who were recently released.

Police are compiling evidence to ensure strong prosecution. The case has ignited more debate on the need to enhance safety measures for women and stronger mechanisms of preventing crime.
