JeM chief Masood Azhar
India Thursday strongly urged Pakistan to abandon its “duplicity” on the issue of terrorism and take decisive action against Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar.
India in a strong statement finally brought to the fore long-standing concerns regarding failure of Pakistan to put an end to terrorism coming from its soil. The demand for action against Azhar comes at a time when charges of Pakistan providing shelter to terrorist groups, including JeM, have continued against several high-profile attacks against India.
India emphasizes that global cooperation is ensured in the war against terrorism and that international efforts to promote peace and security in the region are not supported by Pakistan’s actions.
Demand reflects India’s larger policy of keeping sustained pressure on Pakistan through the diplomatic machinery while urging compliance with international obligations to effectively meet cross-border terrorism.
