External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said India has a pragmatic approach to relationships with neighbouring countries, adding that the government does not engage in “punch scoring” when addressing regional ties.
Speaking at a recent event, Jaishankar underscored the need for balance and constructive approach and instead of one-upmanship, focus on mutual interests. “Our aim is to create sustainable, cooperative relations that serve the interest of the region,” he said.
This is in the context of ongoing debates over a changing Indian foreign policy and its approaches to challenges in South Asia. Jaishankar’s statement tells us where the government focuses on words over action when it comes to complex regional dynamics.
