Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has created a new record by becoming the quickest Indian to reach 200 wickets in One Day International (ODI) cricket. He reached the feat in his 104th ODI match, becoming the new record holder, as Ajit Agarkar was at the mark in 133 matches.
Apart from this national record, Shami has also set a world record for the least number of deliveries taken to achieve 200 ODI wickets. He achieved it in just 5,126 balls, bettering Australian bowler Mitchell Starc’s earlier record of 5,240 balls.
In the ICC Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium, Shami put in a great performance, taking 5 for 53. His milestone 200th wicket was taken when he got rid of Jaker Ali for 68 runs in the 43rd over, with Ali getting a slower delivery wrong and being caught by Virat Kohli at long-on.
