Muslim Bodies Condemn Sambhal Mosque Survey, Demand Judicial Probe into Violence

Muslim organizations on Thursday condemned the latest survey conducted at a mosque in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, as an unwarranted action that disrupted communal harmony. They have demanded a judicial inquiry into the violence that is reportedly occurring both during and after the survey.

The Controversial Mosque Survey

The local authorities claim they had to verify ownership of the lands and compliance with legal regulations, but community leaders view it as a selective targeting of the place of worship and call it an act of provocation against the Muslim community.

Violence and Harassment Allegations

Reports of violence and police excesses during the survey escalated tensions. Mosque officials and members of the community claim they were harassed, with several people reportedly hurt in clashing incidents.

Demands for Accountability

Muslim bodies have come together to demand a judicial probe to ascertain the motivation behind the survey and how the subsequent agitation was handled. Key demands include:

  1. Independent Inquest: Biassed enquiry in an attempt to punish those who have committed religious riot.
  2. Concretes Administrations: Ensure that all discretionary acts of the government on issues of places of worship do not violate equal justice.
  3. Minority Rights Guarantee: Revival of constitutional guarantee to religious rights and equality.

Authorities Response

The officers responded and said that the survey forms are routine administrative exercise and have nothing to do with any issue of discrimination and malpractices. They also complained that the legal parameters within which the survey was conducted were followed, but on allegations of violence, they have not made a single comment.

Community Concerns

This created unease among the citizens in that region and fear of communal polarization. It is the activists and community leaders calling for the state government to create more dialogue and action to rebuild trust and peace in the region.

This only confirms that governance must be precise and transparent. It cannot compromise with social harmony rather keep it intact, while justice is maintained for all communities.
