The National Green Tribunal directed the Central Pollution Control Board to formulate uniform guidelines for handling illegal sand mining throughout the country. This would probably result in bringing uniformity in the manner of enforcing such tactics so that further damage to the environment does not occur due to unregulated mining activities. The guideline will accompany and supplement others such as Sustainable Sand Mining Management Guidelines published in 2016 and the guidelines on enforcement and monitoring adopted in 2020. The authorities aim at increasing transparency while holding the officials responsible for conserving and ensuring that the ecosystems are not exploited beyond what is necessary.
